The Bookshelf

Victor Ivan wrote more than thirty books over four decades, from 1979 to 2022. The first two, on tenant farming and on the 1971 insurrection, took shape while he was in prison after the uprising. The last was a booklet calling for a people’s constitution in the middle of the 2022 economic crisis. In between came investigations of presidents and the judiciary, studies of caste, race and religion, histories of Sri Lanka’s long crisis, a critique of the press, a chess manual, and a book on how to live and die well.

Most were published by Ravaya, the newspaper he founded, and several were translated into English so that readers beyond Sinhala could follow his argument. Every edition stands here in order of first publication, decade by decade. English translations sit in the year they appeared and are linked to their Sinhala originals. වික්ටර් අයිවන් 1979 සිට 2022 දක්වා දශක හතරක කාලයක් තුළ පොත් තිහකට අධික සංඛ්‍යාවක් ලිවීය. ඔහුගේ මුල්ම කෘති දෙක වන අඳ ගොවිතැනේ අභියෝගය සහ 71 කැරැල්ල ලියැවුණේ කැරැල්ලෙන් පසු ඔහු සිරගතව සිටියදී ය. අවසාන කෘතිය 2022 ආර්ථික අර්බුදය මැද මහජන ව්‍යවස්ථාවක් ඉල්ලා සිටි පොත් පිංචයකි. ඒ අතර ජනාධිපතිවරුන් හා අධිකරණය පිළිබඳ ගවේෂණ, කුලය, වර්ගය හා ආගම පිළිබඳ අධ්‍යයන, ලංකාවේ අර්බුදයේ ඉතිහාසය, ජනමාධ්‍ය පිළිබඳ විවේචන, චෙස් අත්පොතක් සහ ජීවිතය හා මරණය පිළිබඳ කෘතියක් ද වේ.

ඔහුගේ කෘතිවලින් බොහොමයක් පළ කෙළේ ඔහු ආරම්භ කළ රාවය පුවත්පත විසිනි. සිංහල නොදන්නා පාඨකයන්ට ද ඔහුගේ තර්ක කියවීමට හැකි වන සේ කෘති කිහිපයක් ඉංග්‍රීසියට පරිවර්තනය විය. මෙහි සෑම සංස්කරණයක්ම පළමු මුද්‍රණ වර්ෂය අනුව දශකයෙන් දශකයට පෙළගස්වා ඇත. ඉංග්‍රීසි පරිවර්තන ඒවා පළ වූ වර්ෂයේ තබා ඇති අතර, සිංහල මුල් කෘතිවලට සම්බන්ධ කර ඇත. පොතක අන්තර්ගතය හා එයට ලැබුණු ප්‍රතිචාර කියවීමට පිටකවරය තෝරන්න.
