The Queen of Deceit is the English translation of චෞර රැජින (2006), published by Ravaya in 2007. It is a critical political biography of Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, who led Sri Lanka for more than a decade. Victor Ivan sets out what he sees as the lies, fraud and corruption of her years in power, and the cruelty and violence that went with them. He examines episodes including the Town Hall bomb, the killings of Rohana Kumara and Kumar Ponnambalam, and the burning of Anoja Weerasinghe’s house.
The Sinhala original was widely discussed when it appeared. Professor Sucharitha Gamlath wrote that it read like a novel, and Supun Hemachandra called it a cross-section of Sri Lankan politics. This English edition brings that account to readers who do not read Sinhala.
The chapter topics in the long description come from the Sinhala edition. The English edition probably follows the same structure, but I haven’t confirmed that.
