අවසානය කුමක්ද? යනු ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ දේශපාලන ක්‍රමය මුහුණ දී සිටින අර්බුදය පිළිබඳ වික්ටර් අයිවන්ගේ කෙටි පොත් පිංචකි. කතුවරයාට අනුව ආණ්ඩු අර්බුද සරල ය; මහජනයාට ඒවා හොඳින් හුරු පුරුදු ය. එහෙත් දේශපාලන ක්‍රමයේ අර්බුද සංකීර්ණ ය, තේරුම් ගැනීම ද එතරම් පහසු නැත. ආණ්ඩු අර්බුදයකදී පීඩාවට පත් වන්නේ බලයෙන් ඇද වැටෙන පාලක පක්ෂය පමණි. නමුත් දේශපාලන ක්‍රමයේ අර්බුදයක් පාලක පක්ෂයට, විරුද්ධ පක්ෂයට මෙන්ම සමස්ත සමාජයටම බලපායි.
පෙර පළ කළ ලිපි නැවත සංස්කරණය කර මෙහි ඇතුළත් කර ඇත. ප්‍රතිසංවිධානයකට තිබූ අවශ්‍යතාව, දේශපාලන ක්‍රමය නිරුවත් වීම, ගරාහැලීම හා පාදඩකරණය, දැනට පවතින තත්ත්වය, සහ අපට කළ හැක්කේ කුමක්ද යන මාතෘකා ඔස්සේ පොත ඉදිරියට යයි. එහි අරමුණ, ඉදිරියේදී සිදු විය හැකි හානිය අවම කරගැනීම සඳහා අර්බුදය ගැන මහජනයා දැනුවත් කිරීම ය. රුපියල් 75 ක අඩු මිලකට නිකුත් කළේ ද එම අරමුණෙනි.
What Is the End? is a short booklet by Victor Ivan on the crisis facing Sri Lanka’s political system. He argues that crises of government are simple and familiar to the public, while crises of the political system are complex and harder to grasp. A crisis of government hurts only the ruling party that falls from power. A crisis of the political system harms the ruling party, the opposition and the whole of society.
The booklet gathers revised versions of articles published earlier. They move from why reform was needed, through the political system being laid bare and its decay and descent into thuggery, to the present situation and what can be done. Ivan’s stated aim is to inform the public, so that the damage this crisis could do can be kept to a minimum. That is also why it was sold cheaply, at Rs 75.
