චෞර රැජින is Victor Ivan’s investigative critique of Chandrika Kumaratunga, written as her second term as President drew to a close. It was first published by Ravaya in 2006, and the English edition, The Queen of Deceit, followed in 2007.
The book opens with a farewell to the departing president and asks who was behind the Town Hall bomb attack. It goes on to chapters on lies, fraud and corruption, and on cruelty and violence. Separate chapters examine a series of attacks on people who stood against the government or criticised it:
- the killing of the journalist Rohana Kumara;
- the killing of the Tamil politician Kumar Ponnambalam;
- the burning of the actress Anoja Weerasinghe’s house;
- the assault that nearly killed the singers Rukantha Gunatilleke and Chandralekha;
- the case of Sanath Gunatilleke.
A photo section follows. The appendices compare J.R. Jayewardene’s “gold Rolex” with Chandrika’s “Patek Philippe” and reproduce a telephone confession by a police officer.
The English edition was one of Victor Ivan’s best-known books, and among his fastest-selling Sinhala titles.
