Sri Lanka in Crisis: Road to Conflict is the English translation of අර්බුදයේ ගමන් මග, which Victor Ivan wrote in Sinhala in 1988 during the second JVP insurrection. It was first published in December 1989 by Sarvodaya Book Publishing Services and distributed by Ravaya. Ravaya reprinted it in June 2011.

The book analyses the social, economic and political direction Sri Lanka took under colonial rule and after independence, up to the Indo-Sri Lanka Peace Accord of 1987 and the insurrection that followed. Its foreword argues that the crisis grew out of a colonial capitalism laid over an older feudal order, which independence left in place.

When the Sinhala original appeared, the writer Gunadasa Amarasekera judged that it surpassed everything published in English or Sinhala on Sri Lanka’s socio-economic trends over the previous decades, in both its analysis and its presentation.

Sri Lanka in Crisis: Road to Conflict, ජ.

I have read almost all the critiques published in English and Sinhala on the socio-economic trends in Sri Lanka during the past few decades and am of the view that this booklet by Victor Ivan surpasses all the above in its analysis and presentation.
