Sunday, April 4, 1971
Arrested around 4:00 AM by a police team led by Peliyagoda Headquarters Inspector Dharmasiri Weerakoon. When I was arrested, J.S. Jayawickrama, Polin Jayawickrama, Anton Jayawickrama, Bolosavi Jayawickrama, and Neelawathi Jayawickrama were in that house. I was put into a jeep and first taken to the Wattala police station. There, the Police Inspector asked me where the Volkswagen car was. I said that I did not know. I was put back into that jeep and taken to Ranjith Silva’s house in Kandana. When Ranjith’s father was asked if I was the person who rented the house, he said yes. I was put into the jeep again and brought to the Fort CID (Secret Police) Headquarters. While I was climbing the stairs with Dharmasiri Weerakoon, P. Warnakulasuriya was also climbing the stairs along with several other officers. It was apparent that he had been severely beaten. Dharmasiri Weerakoon pointed me out to Warnakulasuriya and asked if he knew me. He submissively replied that he had seen me once.
Dharmasiri Weerakoon took me to the room (E.6) of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Hyde Silva. When I went there, ASP Hyde Silva, the then Peliyagoda ASP Cheryl, Police Inspector Jeganathan, Shrani Wijesuriya, and another police officer were present.
All of them got together and questioned me until about 8:30 in the morning. After that, I was taken out of the room and placed under the custody of a Sub-Inspector of Police.
Around 9:00 AM, Upali Seneviratne came and asked for my name. When I told him my name, he left.
1971 අප්රේල් 4 ඉරිදා
උදේ 4ට පමණ පෑලියගොඩ මූලස්ථාන පරීක්ෂක ධර්මසිරි වීරකෝන් ප්රමුඛ පොලිස් කණ්ඩායමක් විසින් අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීම.
මා අත්අඩංගුවට ගන්නාවිට එම නිවසේ ජේ.එස් ජයවික්රම , පොලින් ජයවික්රම , ඇන්ටන් ජයවික්රම , බොලොසවි ජයවික්රම , නීලාවතී ජයවික්රම යන අය එහි සිටියා.
මා ජිප් රියක නංවාගෙන පලමුවෙන්ම වත්තල පොලිසිය ට ගෙනගියා. එහිදී පොලිස් පරීක්ෂකවරයා මගෙන් පොෂ් බාගන් රථය තිබෙන්නේ කොහේදැයි ඇසුවා. මම එය නොදන්නා බව කීවා.
නැවත මම එම ජිප් රියේ නංවාගෙන කදානේ රංජිත් සිල්වාගේ ගෙදරට ගෙනගියා.ගෙය බදුගත් පුද්ගලයා මමදැයි රංජිත් ගේ පියාගෙන් ඇසූ විට ඔහු ඔව් කීවා.
නැවත මා ජිප් රියට නංවාගෙන කොටුව රහස් පොලිස් මූලස්ථානයට ගෙන ආවා. මම ධර්මසිරි වීරකෝන් සමග තරප්පුපෙල නගින අතර මගදී පී ර්වණකුලසූරිය තවත් නිලධාරීන් කිහිප දෙනෙකු සමග තරප්පුපෙල නගිමින් සිටියා. ඕ හට තදින් පහර දී තිබෙන බව පෙනෙන්නට තිබුනා.
ර්ධමසිරි වීරකෝන් ර්වණකුලසූරිය ට මා පෙන්වා මෙයා හදුනනවාදැයි ඇසුවා. එක දවසක් දැක තිබෙන බව ඔහු යටහත් පහත් ලෙස කීවා.
ධමසිරි වීරකෝන් මා සහකාර පොලිස් අධිකාරී හයිඩ් සිල්වාගේ (ඊ.6) කාමරයට ගෙන ගියා. මා එහි යනවිට සහකාර පොලිස් අධිකාරී හයිඩ් සිල්වා පෑලියගොඩ එවකට ඒ . එස් . පී චෙරිල් පොලිස් පරීක්ෂක ජෙගනාදන්, ශ්රනි විජේසූරිය හා තවත් පොලිස් නිලධාරියෙක් එහි සිටියා.
ඔවුන් සියලු දෙනා එකතු වී උදේ 8.30 පමණ වන තුරු මගෙන් ප්රශ්න කලා.ඉන්පසු මා කාමරයෙන් බැහැරව උප පොලිස් පරීක්ෂක වරයකුගේ රැකවරණය යටතේ තැබුවා.
උදේ 9 ට පමණ උපාලි සෙනෙවිරත්න පැමිණ මගෙන් නම ඇසුවා.මම නම කී විට ඔහු යන්නට ගියා.
After a short while, he brought a file. I had been mentioned in a statement given by someone named Narawala B.M. Gunadasa. He questioned me about it.
After that, he took me to K.S. de Silva’s room. When K.S. de Silva asked me to sit down, I sat on a chair that was in front of me. Upali Seneviratne ordered me in an abusive manner to sit on the floor. K.S. de Silva questioned me for a while.
During the daytime, various officers questioned me from time to time. Mr. Hyde Silva also questioned me in the evening. He was under the impression that I had revealed everything and seemed satisfied with that.
On the orders of Mr. Hyde Silva, around 9:30 PM, Sergeant Samarakoon 3207 typed out a statement from me right there in Hyde Silva’s room. Mr. Hyde Silva was also present at that time. It was completed around dawn.
ඔහු තව ටික වෙලාවකින් ෆයිල් එකක් රැගෙන ආවා නරාවල බී එම් ගුණදාස නැමැත්තෙක් දුන් කටඋත්තරයක මා ගැන සදහන් වී තිබුනා.ඔහු ඒ ගැන මගෙන් ප්රශ්න කලා.
ඉන්පසු ඔහු මා කේ එස් ද සිලවාගේ කාමරයට ගෙනගියා.කේ එස් ද සිල්වා මා හට ඉදගන්නටයැයි කී විට මම ඉදිරියේ තිබෙන පුටුවකින් ඉදගත්තා මට බිම ඉදගන්නා ලෙස උපාලි සෙනෙවිරත්න අසභ්ය ආකාරයෙන් නියෝග කලා.කේ එස් ද සිල්වා මගෙන් ටික වෙලාවක් ප්රශ්න කලා.
දවල් කාලයේ විටින් විට විවිද නිලධාරීන් මගෙන් ප්රශ්න කලා හයිඩ් සිල්වා මහතා හවසත් මගෙන් ප්රශ්න කලා. මා සියල්ලම කියා තිබෙන්නේය යන්නෙන් යන්නෙන් ඔහු සිතා ඒ ගැන තෘප්තිමත්වයි සිටියේ.
හයිඩ් සිල්වා මහතාගේ නියෝගය පරිදි රාත්රී 9.30 ට පමණ හයිඩ් සිල්වාගේ කාමරයේදීම සාජම් සමරකෝන් 3207 මගෙන් කටඋත්තරයක් ටයිප් කරගනු ලැබුවා. ඒ අවස්ථාවේ හයිඩ් සිල්වා මහතාත් එහි සිටියා. එලිවන යාමේ එය අවසන් කලා.
Monday, April 5
In the morning, I came to know that attacks had taken place in Wellawaya and Monaragala.
Around 10:00 AM, Mr. Hyde Silva asked me how the attacks in Wellawaya and Monaragala could have happened if there was no intention to attack soon. A.S.P. M.K.J. Perera was also there at that time. I said that it might have happened because the police went to harass them.
I was locked in a room until about 5:00 PM. After that, I was locked in another room. Around 9:00 PM, I was locked in yet another room with two other officers.
I could hear the wailing sounds of people in other rooms due to the beatings carried out by certain officers.
Around 3:00 AM, another group of officers started beating me. I lost consciousness from a blow to my lower abdomen by one of the officers. Even when I regained consciousness, I kept my eyes closed, lying exactly where I had fallen.
අප්රේල් 5 වන සදුදා
වැල්ලවාය හා මොනරාගල පහරදීම් සිදුවී තිබෙන බව උදේ දැනගන්නට ලැබුනා.
ඉක්මනින් පහරදීමට අදහසක් නැත්නම් වැල්ලවාය හා මොනරාගල පහරදීම් සිදුවී තිබෙන්නෙ කෙසේදැයි හයිඩ් සිල්වා මහතා 10 පමණ මගෙන් ඇසුවා.ඒ අවස්තාවේ A.S.P M.K.J පෙරේරාත් එතන සිටියා. සමහරවිට පොලිසිය විසින් ඔවුන්ට හිරිහැර කරන්නට ගොස් එසේවන්නට ඇතැයි මම කීවා.
සවස 5 පමණ වන තුරු කාමරයක වසා දමා තිබුනා.ඊට පසු තවත් කාමරයක වසා තිබුනා.රාත්රී 9 ට පමණ තවත් නිලධාරීන් දෙදෙනකු සමග තවත් කාමරයක වසා දැමුවා.
වෙනත් කාමර වල සිටි අයට යම් යම් නිලධාරීන් කරන පහරදීම් නිසා ඒවායෙන් ඔවුන් විලාප නගන හඩ ඇසුනා.
රාත්රී 3 ට පමණ වෙනත් නිලධාරීන් පිරිසක් පහර දෙන්නට පටන් ගත්තා. එක් නිලධාරියෙක් විසින් යටි බඩට ගසන ලද පහරකින් මම සිහිමූර්ඡා වූවා.සිහි ආවිටත් මා ඇද වැටී සිටි තැනම දෑස් පියාගෙන සිටියෙමි.
Tuesday, April 6
Around 5:00 AM, I was taken to another room (to Punchi Banda Seneviratne’s room). I saw two other youths lying stretched out on the floor, having been subjected to beatings. I was ordered to kneel in a corner of the room.
Around 6:00 AM, a police team from Maharagama came to the room we were in. They were wearing helmets and were armed. The Police Inspector gave a description of the attack on the Maharagama police station, while the other police constables beat us. They handed over several hand bombs, which they claimed were used in the attack against them, to Police Inspector Punchi Banda Seneviratne.
The officers present forced the other two, who were kneeling in a different spot, to perform the ‘Karapachiya’ (a painful physical punishment/stress position). They had to endure this continuously for about 4 hours because they were being beaten by the officers there. No one present received food or water, and they were subjected to beatings from time to time.
Around 2:00 PM, a group of officers who arrived there beat me and put me into a jeep. Amarasinghe of the Colpetty Savings Bank, the elder brother of Somaratne Amarasinghe (the third defendant in the Rosewood case), was also there.
The jeep headed towards Galle Face, and the officers inside beat us from time to time.
අප්රේල් 6 වන අගහරුවාදා
උදේ පහට පමණ මා වෙනත් කාමරයකට ගෙනගියා.( පුංචිබංඩා සෙනෙවිරත්න ගේ කාමරයට ) පහරදීම් වලට ලක්වී තවත් තරුණයින් දෙදෙනකු බිම දිග ඇදී සිටිනු දැක්කෙමි.මට කාමරයේ එක් මුල්ලක දණගහගෙන සිටින ලෙසට අණ කෙරින.
උදේ හයට පමන මහරගමින් පොලිස් කණ්ඩායමක් අප සිටි කාමරයට ආවේය.ඔවුන් හෙල්මට් පැලද සිටි අතර ආයුධ සන්නද්ධව සිටියෝය.පොලිස් පරීක්ෂක වරයා මහරගම පොලිසියට සිදුවූ පහරදීම ගැන විස්තරයක් කල අතර අනෙක් පොලිස් කොස්තාපල් වරුන් අපට පහර දුන්නෙය.ඔවුන් තමන්ට පහරදීමට උපයෝගී කරගත්තා යැයි කියන ගෙඩි බෝම්බ කිහිපයක් පුංචිබංඩා සෙනෙවිරත්න පොලිස් පරීක්ෂක වරයාට බාර දුන්නෙය.
වෙනත් ස්ථානයක දණගහගෙන සිටි අනෙක් දෙදෙනාට කරපාචිය කරන ලෙසට එහි සිටි නිලධාරීන් බලකරන ලදී.එම ක්රියාව නොනවත්වා පැය 4 පමණ ඔවුන් කරගෙන යන්නට සිදු වූයේ එහි සිටි නිලධාරීන්ගේ පහරදීම් වලට ලක්වූ නිසාය. එහි සිටි කිසිවෙකුට ආහාර හෝ ජලය නොලැබුන අතර විටින් විට ඔවුන්ගේ පහරදීම් වලට ලක්විය.
දවල් 2 ට පමණ එහි පැමිනි නිලධාරීන් පිරිසක් මට පහරදී ජීප් රියක නංවා ගත්තේය.රෝස්වඩ් නඩුවේ තුන්වන විත්තිකරු සෝමරත්න අමරසිංහ ගේ වැඩිමහල් සොහොයුරු කොල්ලුපිටිය සේවින්ස් බැංකුවේ අමරසිංහ ද එහි විය.
ජීප් රිය ගාලු මුවදොර දෙසට යන්නට වූ අතර එහි සිටි නිලධාරීන් විටින් විට අපට පහර දුන්නෙය.
